STARTUP VISA

The Start-up category is for early-stage but high potential entrepreneurs starting a business in the UK for the first time. 

  • Applicants do not need any funds to invest in their business at this stage, and must not have previously set up a business in the UK.
  • Successful applicants are granted leave for 2 years and can also bring their family members (spouses/partners and children under 18) to the UK.
  • At the end of 2 years, Startup visa holders can switch into the Innovator category to extend their stay and develop their businesses in the UK.

Requirements:

  • 18 or over:
  • Maintenance (£945 in the UK AND OVERSEAS) Also, can be certified by endorsing body.
  • English B2 (exemptions apply if from and English speaking country, or have a degree level or above course taught in English)
  • TB testing (as required)
  • Endorsement letter dated within three months of the application date

Other info:

  • Teams are allowed, that means two applicants could use the same business idea.

The applicant has a genuine, original business plan that meets new or existing market needs and/or creates a competitive advantage.The applicant has, or is actively developing, the necessary skills, knowledge, experience and market awareness to successfully run the business.There is evidence of structured planning and of potential for job creation and growth into national markets.

 

Potential Endorser examples:

Deep Science Adventures:  For endorsing applications that have a science theme to them, such as Pharma, Energy, Food & Agriculture,

Tech Nation:  for Tech businesses

Ignite: Yes for ‘big data’ or tech companies and settling in the North East or Ireland.  Must be successful in an application on their accelerator programme.

Most UK Universities are also able to endorse.
